I had thought about posting a little thing about how students in schools recently have been pulling worse pranks then when I was younger. I have recently read about several of these in which students at school have used cleaning solvents in teachers coffee, urine in coffee and laxatives on bakery products. I can't remember anyone doing this when I was in school. At worse it was a drawing or spit wad aimed at a teacher. I was wondering to myself, what has happened that these young people would go to such measures? Then came the Virginia Tech shootings and the deaths of all those students and faculty members.
Now it seems that the cleaning solution in coffee seems rather paltry by comparison. I still don't get how these students feel that what they do is funny or a good prank to pull. I would never have thought about doing that to anyone. Not even a teacher that I didn't care for. I guess I don't know or understand how some kids are being raised to think these things up.
Now on to the Virginia Tech thing. I hear a lot of talk on the news about how things might have been averted had the campus police done things differently. I guess I don't really agree with this thinking. If I were a cop and got called to this early scene in which 2 people had been shot, I would have figured like the real cops did and thought the gunman had left the scene. Most of the time that's what happens. Who commits a crime then hangs around? I guess we all found out though.
The second thing that bothers me about all this is the talk about more gun control and more measures enacted to make it tougher to purchase a firearm. This type of thinking reminds me a lot of when I was in school and someone did something and the teacher didn't know who it was. All those in class got punished for it. I just don't think it's right to punish everyone for what an individual has done, no matter how bad it might have been.
Well, I guess that's about it for now. Till next time BYE!!

I agree. Hindsight's 20/20, and I'm getting sick of everyone blaming everyone but the killer.
Mike I agree with you on Virginia tech and how the police responded - I guess people always look for someone to blame when terrible things happen to them.

p.s. haven't been able to get on to Skittle's blog for a few days is everything okay blog-wise, we miss her?
I hated it too when they started blaming the cops for not being able to surmise that two hours later those other killings would have happened. I think they acted professionally and honorably.
Faz, Skittles has had a few others who have had problems accessing her blog. It could be you are using IE and that takes longer to load for some reason. Other than that as far as I know her blog is up and running pretty much as usual.
Mike...you've been nominated for a "Thinking Blogger Award" come check it out.

Well, the assault weapons law in Germany is much more draconic - but it still doesn´t avoid amok runs. There´s been the Erfurt massacre: A school shooting were 16 people were killed before the perpetrator committed suicide. To me tightening the law on arms doesn´t make sense - whoever wants a weapon will get one... maybe dearer, but he will be able to implement his scheme anyway.
Have a good weekend, Mike!
If not for the fact that guns can be as dangerous it might actually help to put them out of reach. Easy access usually translates into easy use.
